Let's not even bother telling the guy what he'd need to do to build as strong an app as possible, what areas to focus on to maximize his chances at getting in. I mean, no one's ever beaten the odds and gotten into a school that they had no chance at, and certainly no one has ever won the lottery.

That video was annoying but do you know if that scrawny dude was the guy benching 495? If so I have to say I'm impressed -- I'm way bigger and would probably die if I tried to do that without the spot.

@OP: It can help because you have overcome a pretty strong obstacle and most people at professional schools come from upper middle class backgrounds. Enough to get you into HYS? Probably not but you experiences color your GPA in a different light that LSP won't capture. I can honestly say that a 4.0 GPA from a recluse doesn't impress me as much as a 3.5 from someone who had significant work/sports obligations.
