Lolwut, a 3.5 (roughly top 25% at most UGs) and 179 would get into CCN, while a 3.99/158 (also top 25%) would be lucky to land a few T1s.

I would think otherwise...I bet there are more 3.99+ LSAC GPAs than there are 179-180s....

If employers reacted negatively to you past 2-3 minutes into the interview, it isn't the 4.0's problem. If you are likable and interview well, you should be able to charm your interviewers into liking whatever your resume says. That's the point of the interview: finding out what your character is like.

But I'm pretty sure that a few potential employers were turned off specifically by my GPA.

I am very probably biased.
No one at my school EVER graduates with a 4.0. Valedictorian for years has been a 3.9_. Three years ago it was -^-3.89

I remembered reading this article seven years ago - found the Fresno story on Google. Now that girl made the most of her UG, went on to do YLS/HBS JD/MBA.

It's on my resume, I feel strongly about earning it. But it fits my personality, I am ultra confident so it supports that. I haven't felt that it was perceived as negative in anyway. Although I doubt they read my education section carefully anyway since everything else is packed.

Bad question because perfect gpa is well above a 3.99 (something like a 4.3?).

In a grading system that uses actual grade points for each individual course grade, you cannot grade above a 4.0, which is an A+.

By contrast, a 4.3 is an A+ in a letter grading system.

It just never dawned on me that people google their GPAs (granted, the results for 4.0 are somewhat more interesting than 3.65). I get your curiosity, but I assume you could also ballpark the rarity (at least within your own school) via your transcripts and/or the number of people with latin honors in your commencement program.

3.99 is worse. You can retake a 179 if you're that OCD.

I'd much rather be a 179/3.0 than a 161/4.3. The former will get into a lower T14, the latter has no chance.

The ideal would be a 3.5/179.

In some ways, a 3.99 is actually preferable to a 4.00. I've been on a couple of job interviews where employers have reacted negatively to my 4.0 GPA. I think they assumed someone with straight A's must have a serious character flaw or some drawback that's not immediately apparent.

Also, a 3.99 shows that you were challenged at some point in your college career which, IMHO, is a good thing.

Anyway, I'd say a 3.99 is worth because GPAs arent weighted equally across courses/majors/schools and if you really want a 4.0 GPA without doing much work, you can pull it off.

You can get summa with a 3.75, our valedictorian is a 3.9, and I have no latin honors (they don't like transfers ... I was 3 credits short on requirement). I don't have a LSAC 4.0, only a degree 4.0 (due to 15 YO grades). So all that adds up to my curiosity on how rare it really is, and whether or not I actually have a 4.0.

Anyhow, you should google "what do people google" (haha). I received a book for review last week on the subject, it is hilarious.

As an update to im_blue 'Fresno Girl' will be a Summer Assocaite at OMM next summer after. Not a bad deal.
