It does not seem statistically possible to me to fill out the "middle fifty percent of the class" with the abovementioned category 4 of LSAT 50+ and GPA 50+ and as these are by definition going to all be people in the upper fifty percent, not the middle 50.

Right? I'm not a math person, but I just don't see how that would work. I am totally willing to eat my words here if someone can explain it to me. I agree that the ODDS are much better, but disagree with the conclusion that this is who fills the middle 50+ of the class. Otherwise, the medians would massively shift to the right.

5. 75+ GPA, 50+ LSAT
6. 75+ GPA, 25+ LSAT
7. 75+ GPA, 25 LSAT
8. 50+ LSAT, 50+ GPA

If you don’t fall into one of these 8 categories, it’s game over. Agree/disagree? I also think they're able to able to fill their class by #5.
Someone failed basic arithmetic...how could they fill their class with only people above the median for LSATs?

The kiss of death is not being above either median.

The bottom 25% LSAT is usually filled by URM's, legacies, extremely good softs, and the occasional high GPA splitter.

But it is silly to try to make a universal rule. Each school has different recruitment tactics.

/thread.

And I also found it odd that OP thinks that you're in trouble if you're say at the 65th percentile for both LSAT and GPA.
