I bought an iBook in 2004, and that had quite a few issues. Before the hard drive completely died on me (in 2007) I needed to replace both the power cord (fraying) and battery. The MacBook I bought to replace it has, so far (knock wood), been great. I did need to have the battery replaced last year, but otherwise my only complaint with it is that my DVD drive (which I use probably far more than the average person) is starting to get temperamental. For a computer that's now 3 1/2 years old, I'm very happy with it. I'll be getting a new one for school though, and will continue to use this one at home/for personal stuff.

Windows = Thinkpad.
Mac = Macbook.

Depends on which OS you intend to use. I hear people having problems with OneNote on Mac if that's your thing.
