If I can't get a lawyerin' job, I'll just keep doing the one I'm doing now. I guess I'll just pretend that I put all that tuition money into a nice car and then wrecked it :)

My plan would be to fall back on public accounting. I find the field incredibly boring, but I suppose it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Exactly.

I'm going to live off my parents and post on TLS. I plan to ask 0Ls what they're going to do when they graduate and don't have a job, instead of going out and looking for a job for myself, or taking a job that is adequate but not enough to satisfy my profound sense of entitlement.

Wow I never thought of military after law school but that might not be a bad last-resort. Do you qualify for LRAP if you enlist? There must be some serious perks for being a JD in the service. I'd guess your chances of being on the front lines in Iraq are pretty slim.

Thoughts?

Go teach English at a university in Korea. This actually sounds tempting to me anyway.

Yeah, that's a great idea. I always wanted to do this in Japan, or maybe China. Perhaps if there are really no jobs after I go to law school, I will keep this as an option.

Everyone on TLS always says a law degree is only useful for law and "A JD opens so many doors" is a myth, but every lawyer I have ever talked to has emphasized how much a JD can help you outside of law. I mean, I wouldn't recommend law school to someone if they had no interest in being a lawyer, but I do believe the degree can be an asset outside of law.

I'm going to rebroadcast major league baseball with implied oral consent instead of expressed written consent.

Here are a few good ones:

1) Test-On Government Jobs.
Most of the people who apply to these are not as smart as law school students. Yeah, it's not the field you want, but if you did well on the LSAT you can kill these tests. They are geared to allow people with basic/functional level skills to get positions that use these basic skills. If you go in there with 3 years of writing and test-taking training, you will mop the floor with the other applicants, and you can test on to jobs that pay 50k+.

After a year of experience you can transfer up to a GS-11 or GS-13 attorney level job. Work there a few years, particularly with a regulatory agency EEOC/Bankruptcy/Financial/DOJ, and then use the revolving door to go into a private practice.

2) Terrible Paying Public Interest Work
Horribly pay, but you can make connections and you can develop solid work product.

3) Start Your Own Practice.
Very hard. I recommend DUI Defense. Tons of money in it. And if you offer Budget representation at first, you can later expand into the premium market. If you get really good, you can make $20,000 a case. And the work is not really legal work, it's more political work and knowing the system.

There is however, a lot of money to be made.

Are you implying it is easy to get a legal job at the DOJ?

I have to think your joking after the major hate you put on the threads on Police departments. But seriously, the military, or an 1811 job would be my contingency.
