Re: Undergraduate moot court
I just found this thread and it made me really happy! I did Moot Court last year- was a semi-finalist at regionals and made it to the round of 16 at nationals (I did the 4th amendment side) and I'm doing it again this year (on the 14th amendment issue). My LSAT is not what I expected it to be, so I am hoping it helps me on my applications. I have no experience at all with mock trial but I've always been interested in it.

I was also a semi-finalist at my regionals, I went to FIU for nationals. It won't fix a low LSAT.

Re: Undergraduate moot court
Hey, I'm also a part of the undergraduate moot court program at my school. I have had a blast this past year working through Mr. Comerford and Mr. Bronner's predicament, and I've even put a moot court experience center stage in my personal statement and now I'm hoping that it pays off. Is anyone here going to nationals this year?

If doing moot court will drop your gpa even by a bit - don't do it.

Re: Undergraduate moot court
I thought about writing a personal statement that involved my moot court experience, but I decided against it and wrote about my internship experience instead. We haven't had our regional yet (it's next week) so I don't know if I'll be at nationals yet, but I'll find out soon.TJISMYHERO wrote:Hey, I'm also a part of the undergraduate moot court program at my school. Anyways, even if it doesn't help my applications I still think it was completely worth it and I'm sure it'll at least help with preparation for law school.

Re: Undergraduate moot court
I am hoping my moot court experience is an average-good soft tbh as I have mooted quite extensively before Lords, barristers, sheriffs (scots magistrates), an ex-registrar of the ICTY etc etc and have reached the semi finals of several national competitions as a law student against other law students. It seems however that if you have UG moot experience it is probably not going to turn a no into a yes; at best you can hope that it may tip the balance between two people in favour of you if the other person doesn't have similar experience.

Re: Undergraduate moot court
I honestly thought undergraduate moot court competition would be a boost in admissions. Common wisdom on this site is there are really on three things that can have a large impact on your cycle. The three things are: LSAT, GPA and URM status. In all honesty doing well in regional tournaments and at nationals is impressive but from my experience I know alot of mooters who have done that and have applied to law school. I believe that is one of the reasons why the soft doesn't help much because it is common. I wish it meant more though. But who knows, its worth a try. good luck to everyone else, ps the 14th amendment issue this year sucks. Commerece is the real issue

I would have to disagree with that, I think the 14th amendment issue is both much more interesting and much more difficult to argue than the commerce clause.tooswolle wrote:good luck to everyone else, ps the 14th amendment issue this year sucks. Commerece is the real issue

Re: Undergraduate moot court
Perhaps it could be a more interesting legal issue, and it is the harder issue but I believe it comes down to what one prefers. I argued strict scrutiny all the way down to rational basis in the free speech case a few years ago. I've had my fill with that and wanted to try something new and I really found the commerece cases interesting.
