This is a gross exaggeration. I will admit that there is a limited difference between say school number 45 and school 51. So in that sense the tiers are overly rigid.GettingReady2010 wrote:You still haven't explained why you must get into a tier 1. Is it an ego thing or what? As other posters have suggested, there is little to no difference between a lower ranked tier 1 and a tier 2/tier 3.
But there is a big difference between Tier 1 schools and lower tier 2 schools and Tier 3.
I always state that there is a huge problem with Tier 3 in that the schools are completely unranked. So you don't know where said school actually falls in the tier.

TITCR. Seriously. Besides the obvious fact that you are locked out of a T20 school (which is important), your 158 doesn't give you a good shot at $ at many schools. I highly doubt you want 100k in debt and dismal job prospects when you're trying to feed a kid.kalvano wrote:052106 wrote:Unfortunately, yes. I took Thursday and Friday off from work the week before the LSAT and studied, but that was not enough. It's one of the most important tests you will ever take. Make time.
Or don't go to law school, because if you can't figure out how to make time to study for the definitive test of the admissions process, you won't be able to figure out how to make time to do all the studying you need to do for school.
Study, retake, reassess. Good luck.

Ok. so what do you guys think about this: if I do decide to take a year off and retake the LSAT, should I try and apply this year anyways just to see what happens? Or (since I will be applying to the same schools anyways) will it look bad on me that I have applied once, got rejected, and reaplying next year. Basically: if I'm planning to apply again, would it hurt my chances then if I do a "trial" application this year?

why waste the money if you are planning on taking the year off. If there is one school that you know you would go to in a second, then apply to that school. If you get in- then go, if not save your money and apply again next cycle

What schools? You said T1, but never specified. You're wasting an application fee at a lot of schools with your numbers. In either case, you'll end up paying sticker at most of the T1 schools (if not all of them). If I were you I would take comfort in the fact that you scored a 158 without study and can probably score at least in the mid-160's with a little effort. Study, retake, reassess.052106 wrote:Ok. so what do you guys think about this: if I do decide to take a year off and retake the LSAT, should I try and apply this year anyways just to see what happens? Yea, I agree... Just realllllly dont want to loose a year, you know. I already feel like I will face an uphill battle for jobs with the younger folks...

Imagine how much worse that will be without going to the best available school and with a ton of debt.
Take the test again and study hard.

You should be more worried about competing for jobs with grads from schools with better job prospects and having massive amounts of debt. I highly doubt a one year difference will expose you to age considerations (discrimination?) that you wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise.
Good luck on the retake.

SMU Part-time and then transfer to full-time; you guys need to start giving out alternatives to the generic retake the LSAT advice. Getting old...

The appropriate answer is that he needs to retake the LSAT.

TCR- you *might* be able to break lower T1 with those numbers, but if you don't want to have to pay sticker, retake must be an option.kalvano wrote:Not-A-Teabagger wrote:SMU Part-time and then transfer to full-time; you guys need to start giving out alternatives to the generic retake the LSAT advice.
