You're on the cusp of an epic fail, ratard. Your emotional response to a hypothetical set of specific questions suggests an inability to detach your own perspectives from your answer. Objectivity is somewhat important in the study of law, you know? Get some.

The way it's spelled doesn't even convey the funniness of it. You have to put the emphasis on the first syllable: "RAH-tard."HopefulLawStud wrote:It is from The Hangover....greatest movie yet.
Which reminds me of another great quote: "You put the wrong emPHAsis on the wrong sylLABle."

*Best speech...ever*
You guys might not know this, but I consider myself a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself as a one-man wolf pack. But when my sister brought Doug home, I knew he was one of my own. And my wolf pack... it grew by one. So there... there were two of us in the wolf pack... I was alone first in the pack, and then Doug joined in later. And six months ago, when Doug introduced me to you guys, I thought, "Wait a second, could it be?" And now I know for sure, I just added two more guys to my wolf pack. Four of us wolves, running around the desert together, in Las Vegas, looking for strippers and cocaine. So tonight, I make a toast!

Re: Do T-6 to t-14's feel like failures for 3 years?
I never thought getting into a T3 school would be possible for me. Sure enough, I was right.
I don't think I will ever feel bummed about this...I guess it's all about expectations. When my Harvard rejection came, I didn't blink an eye. My Texas "hold" actually bothered me more, simply because I wasn't expecting it.
I feel sorry for anyone who isn't proud of themselves for getting into a T10 or T14. It's quite a feat, and the super-achiever climate of TLS can really downplay this fact.

Alan: Gambling? Who said anything about gambling? It's not gambling when you know you're gonna win. Counting cards is a foolproof system.
Stu: It's also illegal.
Alan: It's not illegal. It's frowned upon, like masturbating on an airplane.
Phil: I'm pretty sure that's illegal too.
Alan: Yeah, maybe after 9/11, where everybody got so sensitive. Thanks a lot, bin Laden.
Stu: It's also illegal.

Listen, I don't know if this happens on TLS often, but I feel bad for calling you a ratard. I didn't mean it. I understand the point of your original response, and although I agree with several of your sentiments, I don't think you fully understood mine. It was a targeted inquiry, relative to both specific group of applicants and possible considerations of the same.ATOIsp07 wrote:fuck it, I'll bite...where's the quote from?
I would personally be thrilled if I get into either Georgetown, IUB or similar. There certainly won't be any "remorse" on my part as I'm working as hard as I can towards the top of my class next year. A year or so of UG ratardness on my part left a considerable scar on my UG record and so I understand the realistic chance of my own reaches into certain schools. That is, however, neither here nor there; I'd just like to apologize for calling you a ratard.

Re: Do T-6 to t-14's feel like failures for 3 years?
And now for a rare non-cynical post. . .
There was an article posted either here or on ATL a while backed that discussed associate satisfaction in biglaw. What they found was that the more prestigious school that someone went to the less satisfied they were with their biglaw job. The difference was attributed to a person's expectations and ideas of success (nothing new there); if you went to a t-50 school, getting a gig at a v-100 firm makes you among the elite in your group and probably meets or exceeds the higher end of your expectations. Whereas people at t-10 schools, or worse t-3, have a peer group where that isn't "success" but merely the average result (or YLS failure). They didn't distinguish themselves and, moreover, it is likely that the position they had was their expected one and not the "reach" career, which was probably much more (add prestige placeholder here).
I suspect that a similar mechanism applies to law schools. There is probably a lot more satisfaction in attending 7-14 among the middle-class, decent undergrad demographic than among the upper-middleclass elite undergrad set. Pushed to the extremes, I imagine someone who comes from a line of Yale JDs and Ibankers may well be disappointed going to NYU. Overall, a person's level of satisfaction will correlate well with his expectations.

virtually everyone can be envious of those above and scoff at those below.
someone at Georgetown can look down on those "non-T14" folk with a sense of pride, and someone at Yale will envy the person that gets the SCOTUS clerkship they wanted.
it is all relative
