Wait, what? Sheesh. Well, there goes a waste of my time.
the 157 was a mistake, I froze during the exam. I consistently hit 170 over the course of ten PTs before the LSAT. I am pretty confident that a +170 is within my reach. Yea it would be impossible to get into HYS with those numbers, but NYU, CLS, and GULC are within reach.

I work for a solo in the Bronx who finally made me full-time a little over a month ago. $20,000 plus discounted health insurance per year.

If I had gone to BLS, St. John's or Hofstra, I'd be making 3x that, instead of going to Vermont.

Reasonable_man is full of it. There's no way he could get NYC midlaw from an awful TTT in New England. Those dumps make even Cooley look good.

If I were full of it, I'd likely have come up with something cooler than being at a midlaw in NY and certainly would have bumped my salary up too.

LOL.. Yeah.. I was a little strung out the other day... I did, however, pick up enough billing in 2 days for about 4 solid days, so thats always a positive.. And in the end... Things happened as they always do... The case settled.

Congrats on the billable hours! How much is expected yearly from your firm? Midlaw in Boston is usually around 1900 - 2000 or so...

If it hadn't settled, would you have gotten to make a trial appearance? I assume your firm, as most, only has senior attorneys / partners that do the trial work...

About 2000 hours a year... I wouldn't have done anything fun for the trial lol.. It was already in jury selection in upstate NY.. I was just commanding the paralegals and SAs doing the prep/leg work back here.

I want to gear you and her cousin up with Gladiator sticks so you can joust.
ihateusnews wrote:I attended a TTT, and was not as fortunate as him. I grew up on Long Island, and went to Ramapo College in Jersey. Had some good opportunities with my Management degree, but passed them up to go to law school.

I got into Hofstra, Seton Hall, and Vermont Law (my mother's a hippie so we used to go to Vermont on vacation). Seton Hall was expensive at sticker, and Hofstra and Vermont offered me scholarships. I chose Vermont because it was cheaper and HofsTTTra's bar passage rate is awful.

So three years later, in 2008, I was unable to secure a decent job in NYC or Long Island. I graduated in the top 15% of my class at Vermont, but kept on losing out to Hofstra, Touro, Brooklyn Law School, St. John's, and New York Law School grads. My girlfriend is a medical school student on Long Island, and I really wanted to return, so I graduated jobless, even though employers in Vermont were very interested in me.

I took and passed the New York and Massachusetts bars, and recently started working 2 days a week for a solo in the Bronx. If that's not bad enough, I am a waiter at IHOP in Massapequa to pay the bills while I search for something better. It annoys me that law schools are so local in recruitment scope. I really think that I have more to offer than someone toward the bottom of the class at New York Law School or Touro, but unfortunately employers do not agree. Hofstra is an especially large toilet.

I have a management degree from undergrad, and an MBA obtained with night and summer classes from a nearby college. However, non-law employers screen me out of consideration because they think a law degree makes me overqualified and I would be a huge flight risk to leave for a higher-paying legal job.

At least my girlfriend is somewhat understanding. Her cousin is a Cooley Law graduate, so I look good compared to him.

Nah, my fiancee suffered from this problem as well.. fortunately she didn't get as low as a 157. Some people, even people who are normally good at taking tests, freak out when its a test as important as the LSAT.

I froze and wound up with a 157 myself... 4.5 years later I still want to killself over it... Especially since I rocked the SATs and every other test I've ever taken... On the MBE (mult-choice section of the NY bar exam) I was in the upper 95th percentile or so... Even higher on the professional ethics exam... Did well in law school too... Just fucking bombed that test... Thats how you go T25 U-grad to TTT kids lol.

So right now I've been out of law school since 2008.

I now make $28k at the solo in the Bronx full-time, health insurance discounted.

I also make about $7k/yr. at IHOP weekends, but my hours just got cut back because of new hires. So this will probably go down to about $5k/hr.

So basically I make $33k/yr.

I proposed to my girlfriend and she accepted. She starts at a hospital in NYC after she graduates med school. She is going to do her residency and take on some additional work there starting in January, for $100k/yr.

I am thinking of joining the NYPD, but my family is strongly against it. My mother told me if I do it, I'm throwing away a winning lottery ticket-a Vermont JD. She still thinks it's on par with the T14 just because of it's environmental law program. She found it highly stressful when my dad was a police officer in Nassau County. She told me I'm disowned and out of the will if I join the NYPD. My family has a ton of money (they paid for my law school, and my grandparents bought and pay the taxes on my parents house on Long Island).

So I might be better off just working low-paying jobs and then inheriting a lot someday (hopefully a very long time from now!), instead of taking a pay raise by joining the NYPD (assuming I can get in somehow) and foregoing possibly millions later.

So you work 1 1/3 hours a year? Impressive... IHOP must be doing well...

Everybody sounds so down on you... but hey i mean everyone makes mistakes. And plus your life sounds fine, if I were you I'd just go the stay-at-home dad route, I mean your going to have a wife that's a doctor and inherit lots of money.. I always thought I wouldn't mind if I ended up not being the main breadwinner in a family.
