Definitely saw the drop to 168 coming, but the 25th going from 166 to 163 is a pretty sharp drop

With uva letting their 25th slip 3 points, that seems to indicate that reverse splitters are getting more love. Not sure that answers your question tho

That's got to be pretty unsettling. Anyone that'd want to answer can, but would next year's/subsequent year's admit chances be harder for sub-163 kids? I doubt they'd be interested in maintaining a 163 or so, which could theoretically translate to a lot of applicants with those numbers applying and being dinged.

Then again I'm just a lowly 0L who's just speculating here.

Yeah I'm going to need some speculation on why their 25th plummeted but their GPA went up. This is making me real nervous as a splitter.
When you admit lots of splitters and reverse splitters you end up holding on to your target 25th percentiles by a thread. It's very possible last year the 25th percentile was 166 but the 23rd percentile was like 163. This year they cut it a little too close and it cost them. And if it makes you feel any better the entering classes of 2012 and 2013 had a 164 25th, so this isn't a huge change.

I think it's the latter, unfortunately. T14 GPAs seem to be pretty stagnant. But fingers crossed for a drop in GPA medians too!
