class size cut from 216 to 185
Cutting class size and raising medians is pretty solid
I wonder if schools like Tulane benefit from their general lay prestige

yeah i really think they do
tulane is a "tier 1" school
a school that has spiked tuition almost $5k over the past two years
yet their employment score is 52% with 30% underemployment
that's on par with schools like touro and drake
i really do think it's in part the ug brand

It's a decently ranked school, that's all. If any school should benefit from lay prestige, it's Boston College, which has been getting killed. Notre Dame is also a school that has seen its medians plummet despite being an elite UG. Tulane doesn't have that much lay prestige.

Do you think BC's nosedive in the rankings will affect how employers look at them in the long term?

I think I already replied to you, but no, I doubt that BC's nosedive will affect its employment numbers in the short term. Employers have developed relationships with BC over the years and a drop in the rankings probably won't affect their recruiting practices.

I know I'm not supposed to care because I'm finally a law student, but I really want to know Stanford's medians.

I just want to ask what this "lay prestige" in reference to BC is? It may be a thing in Boston but outside the only thing BC is known for is Matt Ryan... Which isn't saying much.

EDIT: I'm not trying to slam BC. But to compare BC's lay prestige to far better known schools like Emory or ND is misguided, at best, in my opinion.

As a completely disinterested party, I would say BC has more general lay prestige than Emory.

BC is a pretty big deal on the east coast, especially in NE. I would say it has about the same lay prestige as Emory. I was considering Emory for UG (I went to high school in California) and very few people had heard about it, which was pretty frustrating for me. All in all, BC/ND/Emory are all top 30 schools with fairly good national reputations. Without taking anything away from Tulane, which I'm sure is a great school, I don't think it has that much lay prestige outside of LA. I get it if you want to make the argument that is has better lay prestige relative to its peers in LA, but I don't really buy that prestige alone propped up its medians.

I can never keep up with all the "prestigious private (read overpriced) undergrads". Too many of them. Places I've never heard of are apparently "very prestigious".

I'd disagree with that, but I suppose we all hear different things in different places. Clearly, none of this is scientific but if I hadn't gone to law school and done my research I'd have never known BC was any better than any other solid local big school.

I don't doubt it's big in NE but I feel like some of the others have national "lay prestige" though it may be misguided. I don't think BC has that. Nor does Tulane.

Nothing against either school, but it is what it is.

Northwestern doesn't have a part time program. Do you mean jd and jd/mba or AJD

Really? I could have sworn there was a discussion about how NU's part time program had lowered their medians last year. I might be remembering wrong. Thanks for the info.

the 3-yr JD-MBA program. http://www.law.northwestern.edu/admissi ... ofile.html.

LSAT isn't required, GPA tends to be lower, far more stress on work experience.

Also, the AJD program.
http://www.law.northwestern.edu/admissi ... ofile.html

LSAT also not required, greater range of applicants numerically (that 12 point 25-75 distribution). Also more stress on work experience.

Neither of these should impact the traditional JD applicant class profile though.

The medians NU released this year has only been with regard to all JD programs (JDs, JD-MBAs, AJDs). Not sure how much this might affect the overall medians reported since previous medians for these programs were not reported and many opt out of the LSAT in favor the GMAT.
