This is probably the best answer as to why non-trads may see a slight bump. This plus no UG soft short of a Olympic medal or Heisman is as impressive as substantive WEcee cee wrote:

So, do you guys think someone who graduates May and applies in September would be treated as a K-JD?

Re: KJD and/or Weak Softs Thread
Yeah I really have no idea if my softs are average or shit.
-I have a bunch of leadership stuff around campus, with a lot of community service oriented stuff
-grad student government rep
-lead students to other countries to do community service
-simultaneous BA/MA
-Study abroad for 2 semesters and a summer
But at the same time
-Absolutely no WE or even internships, just the stuff above
-K-jd
I've got good scores though, so hopefully that can help a lot.

I don't want to be a 2-time KJD applicant if this cycle doesn't work out (HYS or bust). Maybe they'll value perseverance

More so than 99.99999999% of internships. If they get a Heisman winner they can put that as a bullet point on their class profile.buffalo_ wrote:You really think they would care if you won the Heisman?deputydog wrote:This is probably the best answer as to why non-trads may see a slight bump. Haha makes my college athletic experience look like intremurals if I was compared to a heisman winner.

I mean, WE can be substantive. But I think it seriously just comes down to the quality of the softs, and nearly always, WE is of higher quality.deputydog wrote:More so than 99.99999999% of internships. But there are plenty of internships that are essentially WE, and there is plenty of substantial WE that pales in comparison to undergrad experiences. And schools can put whatever they want on class profiles, whether that is "President of a Student Government Organization" or "Manager at Starbucks" or "CEO of a Fortune 500 Company." Schools don't want to be full of one type of person, and each of those people offer strengths. The only difference is that, odds are, the CEO at a Fortune 500 Company isn't also a Manager at Starbucks, but she could have also been the pres of student gov.

Not to diminish your achievement as a college athlete (way to go dude!) but yes, next to a heisman, your athletics don't look impressive. Just like next to you my intramural call of duty experience looks shitty. Softs are relative. There is only one Heisman a year but tens of thousands of D1 athletes.Austinbound wrote:

Haha no offense taken. I admire those athletes. Unfortunately there is no equivalent award for a female athlete. (Yes, there are awards for exceptional female athletes, but nothing that is as widely recognized or acclaimed as the Heisman, obvs.)

Yep, it kinda sucks huh? Luckily, of those tens of thousands of d1 athletes, only a fraction are applying to LS and only a fraction of that fraction are able to get into the schools you can. Being a d1 athlete is probably a stronger soft for the elite law schools than is an impressive internship or student gov (sorry scoobz) just due to the fact that such internships and student involvement are probably super common amongst the applicants to such schools.Austinbound wrote:deputydog wrote:Not to diminish your achievement as a college athlete (way to go dude!) but yes, next to a heisman, your athletics don't look impressive. Also, this was more prevelant when apply to UG, but at some point, softs stop being necessary and start just proving what you did with your time. Like, if you did nothing in UG, you should have a 4.0--school doesn't take up that much time. In that case almost, "average" doesn't mean much. I kind of take "average" to mean "I did stuff outside of school, I worked after I graduated." Where "below average" is "I had way more free time than acceptable" and "above average" "what I did took much more time than most activities and than what most people did during UG." Maybe throw in prestige, too, if you want, but for the most part, I find it hard to believe one prestigious internship for five hours a week would outweigh a less prestigious internship for fifteen (on it's face--the prestigious one could obviously be correlated with other things).

Why are you trying to make student gov sound important? No one shit about student gov, not even other students.

Re: KJD and/or Weak Softs Thread
Sure. It's not like most if this matters. I doubt a lack of softs is a deal breaker if you have the numbers and I bet that 1% of people or so have softs that substantively change their cyclescoobers wrote:haha I'm aware.deputydog wrote:

Sorry if this is a stupid question but are people who do a master's between undergrad and law school still considered KJD?

Pretty much, I think. It's a step up, but the main point is that you haven't had a break from academia.admiringatticus wrote:Sorry if this is a stupid question but are people who do a master's between undergrad and law school still considered KJD?

Is that directed at me? Obviously I'm going to disagree about whether it is important, but I don't think student gov is a very strong soft. I'm just using it for examples because it's the first one to pop in my mind and very common.

Re: KJD and/or Weak Softs Thread
Not a stupid question at all. I don't think everyone would I agree, but I'd say no. Completing a master's has to be a better soft than what most of us in this thread have done. It doesn't seem to affect cycles all that much, but I doubt adcoms see applicants with a masters like they do K-UG-JDs.admiringatticus wrote:Sorry if this is a stupid question but are people who do a master's between undergrad and law school still considered KJD?
