My vote for coolest city definitely goes to NOLA. It's not cool like New York, but if you are looking for a chill, laid-back place with nice people and great tradition it's the best. Amazing cheap food, a great local music scene, lots of cool festivals, MARDI GRAS, and plenty of other nightlife year round...and then there is also Bourbon Street if you want it. I moved down almost a year after Katrina and was there for a couple of years for school, and I miss it all the time.

I have lived in Los Angeles county for most of my life; unless you have serious money it is a horrific place to live (housing is so expensive and popular activities are pricey). The terrible traffic goes without saying ( in some areas of downtown, you move less than four miles in a one hour stretch of time) yet the pollution is by far the most discouraging aspect of residing in this county: the beaches are so freaking polluted (syringe warnings at some beaches) and the air is so disgusting that it tastes like your breathing out of the tail pipe of a diesel truck. Plus, the people are ridiculous a**holes; if you ask someone for the time, they stare at their watch and then stare at you with disdain without uttering a word.

Don't move to Los Angeles. I hate this county so much that I actually relish the idea of moving to the midwest or south(yes I have visited these areas for several months respectively).

I disagree with you on the South but I'd sooner move to Houston than live in Los Angeles. Houston=LA but Houston COL=1/4 LA COL and no assholes.

And I absolutely do share your hatred of LA. Btw I can WALK faster than 4mph. I was walking down the corridors of O'Hare Airport thinking why the hell people were walking so slow, then I realized that I wasn't in New York.

As for regions:
