I always knew my home state was kind of a punching bag, but I never knew how much until I moved up here to the northeast

I watched this thing on 60 Minutes about homelessness in the US and one of the stats was that 1 in 3 homeless people in the United States lives in Florida. Just think about that.

Not if they keep hiking tuition. When I first started researching law school admissions, Florida was around $15k (TLS's profile for UF has their 2009-2010 tuition at $14,227 in state and $33,592 out of state.) For the class entering this year, it's $22,181 and $41,545. I mean, I get that that's still really cheap compared to a lot of state schools, but considering that they're really stingy with merit scholarships, unless you bombed undergrad and can't manage to get above a 164 on the LSAT, there are probably many schools that give you a better chance at a job for a better price.sublime wrote:Ehh, I do appreciate that the Florida publics are few of the remaining schools that you can get out of for under 100k at sticker, COL included.

Yeah but that's only because you're not likely to freeze to death during a Florida winter.jingosaur wrote:I watched this thing on 60 Minutes about homelessness in the US and one of the stats was that 1 in 3 homeless people in the United States lives in Florida. Just think about that.
Incidentally, I saw that 60 minutes thing too. My dad works with a lot of charities and we recognized a bunch of the places they were going around to do interviews. It felt real weird.

Years ago when I was enlisted and serving in Hawaii, I was surprised by the number of homeless people I saw. Of the limited set I spoke with, it seemed common that they did not orginate from Hawaii, instead they were from various parts of the mainland. At some point they came to the conclusion that their life had unraveled and they suspected that putting the pieces back together was not going to happen in the short term. Realizing that homelessness was likely on the horizon they scraped together enough to get to Hawaii where the prospect of living without a home seemed less daunting then from where they had been.Cicero76 wrote:Yeah but that's only because you're not likely to freeze to death during a Florida winter.jingosaur wrote:I watched this thing on 60 Minutes about homelessness in the US and one of the stats was that 1 in 3 homeless people in the United States lives in Florida. I read some where that this is a big problem for them and that there have been plans to "deport" these people back to the mainland. If I remember correctly they're offering to buy them plane tickets to anywhere CONUS that they want to go.haus wrote:Years ago when I was enlisted and serving in Hawaii, I was surprised by the number of homeless people I saw. Wo-ah!
I just heard a rumor that the medians for Stanford this year are 171/3.87.
That would be up in both categories.

I would not write it in stone on the spreadsheet but I would be surprised if this were not what they report, yes.bouleversement wrote:Reliable source? About time. I understand they are starting to focus more on the LSAT.MikeSpivey wrote:Wo-ah!
