Up 6% in Jan then down 25% for cycle, this does seem exceptionally odd and would be an anomaly. To me, the reporting on one end being mistaken strikes me as much more likely.Moneytrees wrote:I would be very surprised if apps for William and Mary dropped 25% this past cycle. I'm no expert, and perhaps Spivey can pitch in if he has any information regarding this, but wouldn't it be very hard for a school to have apps up 6% through January only to finish with a 25% decrease?
Then again, Vandy's apps were down 12% in January and apparently they finished with +11%. So I guess it could be possible. I was just under the impression that William and Mary was actually one of the few schools that hadn't seen a decrease in apps.

Is orientation usually the original reporting of these things? If so, who else has early starts?

Re: Guess the Medians Contest 2017
Looks like NYU is the only top school in NY that saw an increase in apps (8 percent). So they may very well hold onto that 170. Meanwhile, Cornell's apps were slightly down (2 percent), so there's a chance we could be seeing that 166 after all.

Lavitz should have had to start with a handicap.
Alternately I should have just copied his list.

I doubt Cornell will slip to 166. I say that because they offered better aid than in the past and 2% is very little to a top school. on top of that they have a small class. The schools to watch are probably George Washington and Georgetown with those 400,500++ class sizes and quite possibly WUSTL. WUSTL was giving full rides to EVERYONE last year and managed a 166 with a 3.69 and had it's smallest class by far. I doubt they can offer as many full rides this year.

Schools are really really guarded with this stuff. So just because CLS, or others, have not said they are up doesn't mean that they are not. it just means they haven't said anything yet. Or is there more to this article than the short blurb linked that I can't access?

The deferral business is one of the reasons I am so intrigued by what is going on at WUSTL. Medians, class size, app size, etc.cusenation wrote:They over admitted and we're offering more scholarship if ppl deferred. It looks like they checked in with individual schools to get these stats. You are right, maybe things will shake up a bit differently when all the schools officially release their information.
As for NYU and Cornell, my personal opinion is that they will maintain their medians, but for those that predicted a 166 for C, the slight decline in apps is good news.

I think you are referring to their torts class registration -- which also includes LLM. I have heard the number if more around 270 (still big but more inline with some past years)lhanvt13 wrote:Pretty sure it's true. Thought it was crazy tooBrut wrote:yeah 300 at wustl isn't happening

Re: Guess the Medians Contest 2017
Well If WUSTL had a 166 with a 3.69 with only 189 people and giving out FULL rides to a ton of people, it has to make you wonder what GPA/MEDIAN they will have with about 270 people. I predict a HUGE spread between the median and the 25th, sort of like Emory the king of gaming US news rankings with what they do.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
