Re: 2014 USNWR T25 Prediction Contest
NYU has been aggressively adding faculty for years; they probably have the most underrated quality assessment of the T14 (ie they're bizarro Michigan). Their 12% in school-funded jobs is weak though.North wrote:I lol'd.The Boomers are dying, dude, and with them dies M's inflated quality assessment score. North you gonna submit an entry?
I ain't gonna debate the merits of any choices - can't be helping out the competition after all. Bet this is gonna be like picking a March Madness bracket though. You can try hard all you want but at the end of the day some monkey that threw darts is gonna end up with a better prediction than you.

Re: 2014 USNWR T25 Prediction Contest
Yeah I'm working on it right now, actually. I won't win, though, because I'm doing it the same non-scientific, gut-based way I do college football pick-ems: within reason, I'm predicting good outcomes for schools that I like and bad outcomes for schools that I, for whatever arbitrary reason, don't like. And you summed up why I do it like that pretty well, actually:Crowing wrote:North you gonna submit an entry?

I really want Regulus to stumble in here with a really, really well-researched and heavily-considered submission so we can compare his outcome to those of us who took the monkey dart approach.toothbrush wrote:Crowing wrote:North you gonna submit an entry?

Because I assume there is a deadline to submitting predictions, here it is! Will Harvard jump back up, will UPenn rejoin the T6 again, will Duke finally break into the top 10….Sherwood Entry wrote:

(Wish I knew what criteria changes USNWR implemented this time (not that it would actually help me). Wonder what the negative impact might be (if any) on school-funded employment?)

Why is Regulus speaking in the third person?Regulus wrote:This is precisely why Regulus is not submitting anything in this thread; he would feel extremely butthurt if he lost to random shit-guesses.North wrote:I really want Regulus to stumble in here with a really, really well-researched and heavily-considered submission so we can compare his outcome to those of us who took the monkey dart approach.
Speaking of butthurt, there was a competition put on by HR at Regulus' office recently for the "tidiest desk," and the winner got a $10 Starbucks gift card. Regulus' desk literally never has anything on it if he is not using it at the time (he might be a little OCD about cleaning shit), and he always dusts it at the end of the day and stuff... but HR didn't choose his desk because it "didn't look like anyone sat there." (That was literally HR's comment on the feedback matrix.)

Then make one based on what you WANT to see and submit it. You're looking at a ~1/25 chance at free pistachios (at the moment). Go for it, dude.Regulus wrote:This is precisely why Regulus is not submitting anything in this thread; he would feel extremely butthurt if he lost to random shit-guesses.

Despite my love for its campus, I think it's time that M settled down where it belongs with DCNG. NU has hovered around 11/12 for the last six years. I don't think 10 is unreasonable -- it was #9 a few years back -- and I like what NU's been doing with WE expectations. Also, nice campus in an ugly city.toothbrush wrote:why would mich drop to 12 and nw shoot up to 10 ?

Wow, a major metro has some rundown parts. Color me shocked.
ETA: And we have some places in Miami that make that look pretty nice.
