What? Where?

Thanks a lot Jackalope!! If the study method I am following from TLS comes through maybe I will rock a 170 and go to UT or Vandy!jackalope11 wrote:apaint wrote: Yeah, I am looking for others. I would like to keep my debt under 100k, I am debt phobic. I have lived and enjoyed living in the south and west. I would also like to live in a big city, as my boyfriend will be coming with and needs to be able to get a job. He is a lawyer who works for a private business currently. I have some family connections for him in Dallas, Denver, and Seattle.
Well, then... I would have to say that you would be hard pressed to beat SMU's placement numbers, or their strength in market. If you like Dallas, they are certainly a strong candidate. If you hit that 160's goal, I would think you would get major $$ from them. I did, and I don't have near those numbers.
However, I would still stress that UT may be within your reach, with the right LSAT.
Good luck!!!

167 LSAT, 3.1 GPA. Thinking of:
BC
William & Mary
UIUC
Maryland
UNC
Wisconsin
I've also got a few more reasonable targets/safeties:
UConn
Pittsburgh
Richmond
Northeastern
UMaine
Suffolk
Quinnipiac
Am I wasting my time with the reaches? 4 years out of undergrad, average work experience, nothing else remotely special about me.
Do we know this for sure? I've never seen it discussed.kalvano wrote:No.wolfpack11 wrote: Does being handicapped qualify me as an URM ?

Not a URM. That's only for your race/ethnicity.Desert Fox wrote:Do we know this for sure? I've never seen it discussed.kalvano wrote:No.wolfpack11 wrote: Does being handicapped qualify me as an URM ?
I keep going back and forth with those two... I feel like I'm applying to too many schools. Is that absurd?kalvano wrote:Why not throw W&L or Wake on there?snapdragon wrote:Ok, I'll throw my numbers out here..

Truth is, I spend enough time on here that I'll be on your level in no time.romothesavior wrote: definitely got it right with regards to the TLS superstar thing, though.

I'm also a little worried that my GPA is going to be instant-decline at most of the reach schools, BC being my first choice since it's a great school and close to where I live now and would want to live later. I've been also been told to throw WUSTL and Emory on there, but I think that might just be a waste of app price.

I feel uncool and undesired - I haven't gotten any! But then again, I haven't sent in my undergrad transcripts yet *trying to reassure myself*darby girl wrote:Started getting the fee waiver emails (im sure you all did too) is there any reason NOT to apply to the schools where it is free to send it? Might as well right? (Richmond and Seton Hall today)
Your chances at UF and FSU are exceedingly small with a 159. A 161 is a safe score which ought to get you in. You will get into Miami, but you are unlikely to get much money, if at all. So it's not worth going to. So it's not a real safety. Your shot at 'Bama is miniscule. Basically, without a higher retake, the chances of UM (no money) being the only school you get into are very high. So you've got to bank on doing a good retake. Even a couple points can get you UF or FSU.alicrimson wrote:Hello folks. I thought I'd get some opinions also. I'm planning a retake, as I was PT ing 164-169 and think I can do better but I was wondering what you all think as far as chances go in case something wild came up.
GPA will be 3.78 at the end of summer
LSAT was 159
I'm thinking:
UF
FSU
----
Miami safe school
I think I'm looking at waitlists and entry at UM. I'd really like to try for Alabama but I know I need atleast a 163 for a shot. Any opinions here?

In, but don't go unless you're getting full tuition or close to it, so it's sort of pointless.poo wrote: What do you you think my chances are @ UF/FSU/Miami with a 158/ ~3.95?
You mean to tell me that they told you exactly what their numbers cut offs were rather than spew some BS about, "We look at the application holistically and take more into account than mere numbers"?darby girl wrote:rad law wrote:In, but don't go unless you're getting full tuition or close to it, so it's sort of pointless.poo wrote: What do you you think my chances are @ UF/FSU/Miami with a 158/ ~3.95?
I talked to admissions people at UF and FSU recently, and they said I was @ 80-90% at admit, which to me means I'm in unless I F-up, and they said to try and get at least 1 more point on the LSAT to assure some scholly money. The FSU guy said 164+ get the best scholly offers, and even a few ppl with 163, but I have a 3.3 GPA so ehh. Your numbers split the way mine do, my LSAT is @ 75% or higher, and my GPA is @ 25% or lower. Yours being the exact opposite of mine leads me to believe you would have chances the same as mine... And I was pretty sure I'd get money from UM. Am I wrong to think this radlaw?

Check LSN to be sure, but Miami, because it doesn't travel well outside S. FL, is not even the best school in the market (tied with UF), in market that has other players (T14+Emory, FIU, Nova), and with a high COL isn't that great of a bet without full tuition. Even if you got some money from UM, I still wouldn't go.darby girl wrote:rad law wrote:In, but don't go unless you're getting full tuition or close to it, so it's sort of pointless.poo wrote: What do you you think my chances are @ UF/FSU/Miami with a 158/ ~3.95?

At least we're not some dirty rust belt backwater like... all of Illinois other than Chicago!romothesavior wrote: You mean to tell me that they told you exactly what their numbers cut offs were rather than spew some BS about, "We look at the application holistically and take more into account than mere numbers"?
Wow... the Florida schools really are TTT!
But it's the most prestigious school in FL, bar none. You're not going to be looking for jobs in Gainesville haha.darby girl wrote: I'm worried that UF, even though it's the best school in Fl, is going to be troublesome being in Gainseville... Not very much of a legal market there
