Application Fee Waivers - Fall 2011 Applicants Forum

That's only some schools. Anyway, it's up to you. I am broke, and I'm not sending out an application unless I know for sure I haven't gotten a fee waiver from that school. Anything submitted before Halloween is still very early, so it's just worth it for me to wait.

Lets hope Columbia and Penn do take notice of Northwestern, NYU, and Michigan, indeed.

Yeah, I understand that completely... what really helped me to freak out less is that on LSN when you see someone that should have gotten into a school but got WL'd or dinged because of a late application, it's because they applied in December or January, and DEFINITELY not early October.

Has anyone gotten a waiver from Northwestern, Chicago, NYU, or Michigan (basically anywhere but Duke) that does not yet have their transcript processed? My numbers seem very comparable to those that have found hidden waivers (or gotten e-mails), but all I've received was an e-mail from Duke, so I'm trying to determine if it's just because my transcript hasn't been officially processed or if my frustration is warranted.

So two of my three recommenders (one prof. and my boss) have promised me that their letters will be in by the end of next week. My second professor responded to my e-mail saying he was planning to write it in the second half of the month. I realize applying Oct. 5 instead of Sept. 20 or something is NOT going to make any difference at all, but it's still frustrating.

I guess more time to stress myself out rethinking my ED/not ED decision.

Same. I've pretty much resigned myself to applying sometime around the middle of October. That's still plenty early so i'm not stressing too much! (for now.....). I definitely, definitely, definitely feel your frustration though.

I sent out friendly reminders to my recommenders this week and two of them had completed their letters and sent them within 48 hours of my email. My other recommender said she hadn't gotten to it yet and would try next week for sure
But my apps are not ready to be sent out at all yet so it's not like that's holding me up -- but I hope she still writes a good one. (I know I don't need 3 - they are for specific reasons)

Yeah I wanted to be done by September but with the whole LOR drama mid-October is now my goal. I just definitely want mine in before the October LSAT crowd gets done...

I'm supposed to send my writer an e-mail on Monday with a two-week "deadline" notice. I love it when professors tell you to remind them about things, because then I don't have to worry about coming off as a crazy person. And hopefully he'll be done by the 27th and then no idea when it'll get processed :/

My gf got the duke waiver. 3.49/161. I did not. 3.49/173. Wtf duke. She also got the vandy waiver which I wouldn't expect.

At the LSAC forum in Miami, the rep from Penn said they would most likely be doing waivers after the Oct LSAT scores were released. Then we had a conversation that went like this:

Me: Well...I'd like to apply around the end of this month, what should I do?
Him: You could email us, I guess
Me: Because I've gotten fee waivers from a lot of other schools...
Him: Yeah...we almost all use the same standards for fee waivers, so if you've gotten them elsewhere you should get it from us.
Me: So I could email you earlier than October and request a fee waiver?
Him: Yes.

Try not to all assault the Penn admissions office with e-mails in one day

I want to send schools an email that says something along the lines of 'Just because I don't have an LSAC gpa does not mean that I'm a weak candidate. If I don't get any more fee waivers the only way I can come to your school is after a summer of begging under the interstate bridge. You will not like the smell.'

Update:

Received responses from three of the schools that I requested waivers from on Friday. Michigan politely told me that I didn't qualify, which was honestly pretty refreshing. It seems that most schools reject your request by telling you that they only issue waivers through CRS searches. Speaking of which, Cornell gave me a soft rejection by referring me back to the CRS searches. WUSTL gave me a waiver. And I'm still waiting to hear from GULC, but I'm not holding my breath.

I didn't get Duke, either. I don't really want to go there, but it still stings a little.

Also, the hidden fee waiver was nice, but I'd also like the viewbook and note from Michigan. It's one of my top picks. I would like a little book to page through to confirm why I like it so much.
