We all know that there are different admissions standards for URMs and likewise we all know that there are different standards for fee waivers for URMs. My question is whether or not one is to include this within an email soliciting "merit based" fee waivers. Is this imprudent? I'm just not sure. Any help will be appreciated.

you gotta crack it first. if you can crack it, no app fee.

There will be a spot for you to input it as you checkout. If it is hidden, you won't need to input anything nor will you have to pay more than the $12 LSAC fee.

So, I took the plunge and sent three merit-based fee waiver requests on Friday.

Northwestern very quickly told me that if I was eligible for a merit-based fee waiver, I would receive one automatically through CRS (I have not). Perhaps they will re-evaluate after my September LSAT score...

Boston University did grant my request today, and provided a code.

I have not yet heard from Fordham, but thought it worth the shot since the viewbook explicitly invites prospective applicants to e-mail or mail a request for fee waivers.

My handful of schools without fee waivers are all reaches; I don't think I am worthy of asking Stanford or Columbia for one.

Stanford does not grant merit-based waivers under any circumstances. Columbia gave them out via CRS last month. Perhaps they will do so again after the Sept. test. I do not believe anyone has had any luck soliciting a merit-based waiver from Columbia though.

Does LSAC give everyone 4 free reports? Or only those who have a need-based LSAC fee waiver? I don't have the LSAC need-based waiver and I've submitted 15 applications so far, but have not gotten 4 free reports from LSAC yet (I've submitted both applications with a fee waiver and ones without).

I have the numbers to get a waiver, and am a little surprised I haven't. I'd at least like to apply to my home state LS...we'll see if one comes eventually.

I visited the school this spring and got a waiver mailed to me a couple weeks after (they never asked about my numbers either.) Not sure if that's an option for you or not.

Greetings from W&L Law in Lexington, Virginia!



We believe that W&L Law is a different kind of law school. In addition to offering a first-rate legal education defined by both intellectual rigor and innovative curricular approach, our school boasts a campus community and atmosphere defined by collegiality, cooperation and civility rather than the cut-throat competition and negativity so often associated with law school.

We know that these are challenging financial times for a great many people, and we don't want an application fee to preclude you from applying to W&L Law. Consequently, we have made the necessary arrangements with the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) so that no fee will be assessed when you apply electronically via LSAC. For this admissions cycle, applying to W&L Law will be free of charge.

I think its one of if not the smallest incoming law school classes among the top 50 law schools. Which for some people is a good thing. For others, not a good thing.

Most of the schools emailing me had an unsubscribe link in their email. I guess they don't?
