brut when you were a 0L less than a year ago you chose to go to NYU. What was the reason?

i debated law school and researched for 2.5 years before attending
i ultimately decided based on misinformation, incorrect assumptions, and misleading information perpetuated in the TLS echo chamber
it was a mistake of a cycle, though i hit a few lucky breaks, as you know
but why are you asking? are you just mocking me for my mistakes?
how long did you spend researching before going to columbia?

Look dude you chose because NYU killed it at biglaw plus fed clerk. The other stuff matters but the top schools all crush everyone at biglaw plus fed clerk which is why they are rightly top schools. Even now there's very little you could have used other than BL/FC numbers to make the decision you did.

@starry eyed: No story. I was just trying to get brut to admit he went to NYU in large part because of its excellent placement into biglaw and fed clerk positions.

i don't feel like airing my dirty laundry in the on-topics
but i will say – i'm not claiming to be perfect
part of the reason i post is to stop people when i see them making mistakes, some of which are the mistakes i made in my cycle
but the fact my cycle wasn't great doesn't impact the strength (or weakness) of my arguments

Just to point out the obvious, this has some of the same problems that Vault rankings do: The NYC bias. I think this is probably a solid chart if all you care about is placement into some kind of big law no matter where, which generally really means NYC. I would definitely pick Northwestern over Penn if you wanted to work in Chicago or the Midwest - the list goes on.

Needs more tiers

I'm open to suggestions. The last tier is big because the schools all have very similar overall #s and big law #s such that the outcome of a student will have a lot to do with their grades.

schools with 20-25% BL placement as a tier, 15-20, 10-15, etc.

why not just put:

schools with 20-25% BL placement as a tier, 15-20, 10-15, etc.

Idk, I think those schools with 10-25% biglaw/fed clerkship and 60's/low 70's placement are all pretty much the same. They're too locally-focused to care about a 3% difference in biglaw placement.

If there's another tier, it should be the tier of state flagship types in small states that do decently in local legal markets, like New Mexico, South Dakota, Florida State, Tennessee, Baylor, etc., but have low or non-existent biglaw/fed clerkship placement. Then add a final tier with every other school and just call it the never ever go tier.

Any ranking/tier system is imperfect, but I'm serious that this ranking (which took me 10 mins) is more useful for students deciding where to attend than us news.
