Resolved: it's now T13
Recruiter at my big law told me this when I bumped into her at coffee.

It has been foreseen that W&L improved their employment + bar passing rate significantly, but increasing 12 spots is unprecedented !

what's the procedure moving forward for the mass number of grads who have the objective statement on their resume as "I went to a t14, i deserve big law job."?

How did Washington and Lee move up 12 spots? How did UConn move up 11?
Are they giving fee waivers to everyone to boost applicants or giving gift cards like Alabama?

I think you just need to pay attention and anytime you hear someone say T14 or Top 14 -- you need stop them and remind them that things have changed and it is now the T13. We can make this necessary change one person at a time.Colonel_funkadunk wrote:what's the procedure moving forward for the mass number of grads who have the objective statement on their resume as "I went to a t14, i deserve big law job."?

Yes, true. But don't Berkeley and UCLA both have much bigger contingents of public interest-focused students? So does that make USC's #s even a little lower than they appear, corrected for the proportion of the class seeking BL? Or am I missing something?
(I guess same would be true of Georgetown as of Berkeley and UCLA, right? I know there's lots of haters, but presumably a bunch of Gtown grads want gov't or public interest?)

Don't think W&L has actually charged to apply in years (including before their ratings drop in the first place out of the 20s.) So I don't think that would be an input change.Npret wrote:How did Washington and Lee move up 12 spots? How did UConn move up 11?

I'm going to use up every last ounce of goodwill I've most assuredly built up with the mods over the last 5 years and over 10K posts to ensure this is the last post you ever make on these fora.Fiddlesticks wrote:Forever a bridesmaid, never the bride!BigZuck wrote:Post officially reportedFiddlesticks wrote:To be clear, UT has not joined anything. Re: 2018 USNWR Rankings
I'd say you're generally right but it's all speculation and reading employment data tea leaves. Were all the PI/govt people eligible for biglaw jobs? Probably not. Were some? Probably. It's hard to pinpoint just how much "some" is. The higher up in the rankings, the more I give credence to self-selection out of Biglaw.lawboundsomeday wrote:Yes, true. Re: Resolved: it's now T13
Food for thought: My understanding is T14 refers to the only 14 schools that have ever cracked the top 10.
If that's true, by definition, Texas can be ranked higher than GTown but it wouldn't be a T14.
If anything, 2018 rankings should show us that outcomes matter more than T-whatever.

Re: 2018 USNWR Rankings
Is Harvard and Columbia going (-1) bad news for humble 171 LSAT scorers (i.e, will they aggressively admit high LSAT scorers even more than they have been, especially Harvard in order to get back up to 173)?
