tbf, other people were the ones dickslanging. You were just the guy in the background pointing out the half-dozen tube socks falling down through their pants leg.bjsesq wrote:It's what I do.Flips88 wrote:Only 4 pages in and the dickslangin' begins

But I'll stop derailing.
Anyway for those of you who want to read a great dfw essay, check out a supposedly fun thing I'll never do again
I'm pretty sure it's here --LinkRemoved--
I'm on 3G right now and shit won't load but I think that's it. Love that freaking essay

lol, how can you make a statement like thatthecilent wrote:Jfc. If you don't think dfw is one of the most talented writers EVER, you are an idiot. I'm sorry: I know that sounds ridiculous, but it's the truth.
And the footnotes unnecessary? That doesn't even make sense. You have to understand dfw and the way he thinks and writes to really appreciate the footnotes

I was pretty surprised by this, but laura hillenbrand's new book "Unbroken" was really entertaining, pretty easy summer read as well.

My guilty pleasure: The Thief of Always by Clive Barker. Meant for teens, but damn it's good.

I just finished "Crazy U" by Andrew Ferguson (speechwriter for Bush I). It's very light and quick to read, but tremendously funny. On top of the humor, there's some sharp commentary on higher ed, much of which can be applied to the LS admissions process.

Josh Grisham's books aren't spectacular but they do sort of put you in the whole "law" mode, I guess...Runaway Jury and The Firm are the only books that I enjoyed

Bret Easton Ellis novels put you in a proper state of mind for law school, or at least, give you a sense of what kind of people to expect to deal with.

Damn, I guess the Maude translation sucks then.Verity wrote:The bolded is usually telling of a bad translation.TheFutureLawyer wrote: Yeah looking around it seems the Maudes and those guys made the best english translations around. I can only say that the Maude translation of Karenina reads very well.
Also, spell check is informing me that 'bolded' is not a word.

Spellcheck is for wimps and fatties. It would inform you that Ulysses is in Chinese.TheFutureLawyer wrote:Damn, I guess the Maude translation sucks then.Verity wrote:The bolded is usually telling of a bad translation.TheFutureLawyer wrote: Yeah looking around it seems the Maudes and those guys made the best english translations around.
