I think the idea of overcoming your shyness is interesting. But I'm not sure about bringing it up in the context of not liking writing and hating talking about yourself is the way to go. Discussing your college rejections seems like looking back a long way instead of talking in the here and now about why you are a great candidate for their school. I want to see how you've overcome your shyness as a leader, not hear at length how you used to be if that makes sense.You look back a lot and then discuss a brief high point on your resume and then end. I'd spend a bit more time on your growth and who you are now.
