Are the personal statement prompts usually the same/similar for the top 20 law schools every year?

Post by lawperson17 » Sun Jun 05, 2016 1:27 pm

Hi everyone! Are the personal statement prompts usually the same/similar for the top 20 law schools every year? So would X school ask for a personal statement using the same prompt as the previous year or would there be a slight change? I would love to start on my personal statements early but I realized that the official prompts aren't released until September. Thanks in advance!

I wrote one ps and sent it to every school I applied to, 11/14 and a state flagship. They all had different prompts, I am not sure that the prompts really make a big difference. Most ps are generic enough it doesn't really matter.

I checked he prompts the year before I actually applied, because I ended up delaying my application process for a year, and of about two dozen that I looked at all but one stayed virtually the same. And even the one that changed hadn't changed by much. Some of the law schools don't even have an official prompt, it will just say something like "tell us why you want to go to law school and anything else you think could be relevant" or something vague like that.
