Writing about plans as a lawyer?

Post by carasrook » Thu Feb 11, 2016 4:14 pm

Hello all,

I'm a ways out from personal statement crafting (taking the LSAT in June and applying for Fall 2017), but I've been brainstorming a bit and had a question.

The branch of law I want to go into is extremely niche. Would discussing this in a personal statement be unwise? I worked for an attorney who did the same thing, so I would incorporate that into it, but I don't have any life stories that would line up well with it.

If anyone thinks this IS a good idea, any idea how to frame it?

Thanks!

Your best bet may be to come up with a first draft and post it on here. Personally I would not make the niche field the centrepiece of my PS if I did not have a good argument that I have a good chance of getting employment in that field. But I could be wrong. You would certainly need to come across as passionate and well informed about the field.
