An adviser told me that since I spent some years after college pursuing different things (graduate school, brief WE) I have to talk about those things in my PS.

I was initially going for topics like "my passion for [hobby] and what I learned", "what I learned from travling" "my experience with a certain family member" etc.

Are those topics mentioned above less suitable for non-KJDs?

What do you guys think?

Talk about whatever you want, but being non k-JD is a good thing and you'd probably want to draw their attention to that as much as possible, and the PS is an opportunity to do so.

I agree with Br3v that not being a KJD can be very positive. But I don't agree that you have to rub adcomms' faces in it. They're not stupid, they can see your resume that you've done stuff since graduating. I think your three topics you listed are all perfectly acceptable and that you shouldn't shove your experience in there. Advisers are wrong approximately 100% of the time.

BTW, as for those three topics, if those are what you're juggling between, I'd say the strength of them is

1.) Depending on this family member, your experiences with them and what you learned
2.) Hobby and what you learned
3.) Traveling (way too many people write about traveling).
