PTSD Addendum

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Nov 28, 2015 4:35 pm

Hello! I've never posted on an online forum before, excited to get feedback from you lovely people! I am asking for advice on what to do in this situation - can't find sufficient info anywhere, and, frankly, I am suspicious of the sources anyways.

The long and the short of it is this: I am a recent college grad (graduated in 2015 from a T-20 school) and I am sitting for the LSAT for the second time. I have PSTD that I am working to get under control. I have a 3.6 GPA from my school but a sub-160 LSAT. My score was far lower than I anticipated after my first test (chalk it up to undiagnosed PTSD and severe symptoms) but I'm not certain my LSAT will go any better the second time.

I still experience symptoms, attention problems and heightened anxiety due solely to the PTSD. Is an addendum appropriate? And would it make me a more or less compelling applicant?

I wouldn't submit this addendum, your lsat is your lsat and an addendum like this may make schools question whether or not you are stable enough to attend law school. Just retake they won't care about the lower score.

good advice! I agree about whether schools would question OP's stability, but do you think their performance in undergrad would dispel that thought?

better to not put it into their head period since there is nothing by be gained by it and potentially something to lose.

I have PTSD as well. Look into CBT and EMDR. We have low thresholds for stress as it is. I wouldn't mention the PTSD explicitly, just mention a serious medical condition if you do at all. Seems like you have a good enough GPA where that shouldn't be necessary. Keep taking care of yourself :D

EMDR can work wonders. My wife was hit by a drunk driver and had really bad anxiety and PTSD after. She would get out of body experiences and panic attacks driving. She had a couple EMDR sessions, and she was way better. She only occasionally gets anxiety if she's the passenger and there is tons of traffic or the roads are really curvy.

I'd say no on the addendum, but yes on working really hard for a retake. You can do it!
