YLS alum reviewing PS, DS, YLS 250s this weekend

Post by Ben Matlock » Fri Nov 27, 2015 5:44 am

Hi all,

This weekend I'm offering four-point evaluations (structure, content, tone, and mechanics) of personal statements, diversity statements, and Yale 250s. Send them my way! I'm not going to spam here, but see the "Free Advice" forum for info about me.

For the Yale 250 there are two structures I recommend, each with three paragraphs: Thesis-Antithesis-Synthesis ("TAS"), or Example A-Example B-Comparison ("ABC"). If you don't know what the former means, YLS is probably not a good fit. For the latter, I recommend a comparison that emphasizes similarities over differences.

Do you want the PS posted here or sent to you privately?

Privately. Got your essay. I recommend that no one ever post any essay publicly until after the admissions cycle is over.

Hello, I just had to rewrite about half of my personal statement. Would I be able to send you a draft within the next few days, or would that be too late for you?

Yes, that's fine. Tomorrow is the University of California undergraduate admissions deadline so we're pretty busy until tomorrow evening, but please send it my way when it's ready!
