Personal statements are literally worth probably ~1% of your total admissions decision in 99.999% of circumstances. Paying to edit your personal statement is 1: a waste of money and 2: sort of dishonest as you have to write well to be a lawyer anyways. Get mom, dad, girlfriend, grandma, etc... an undergraduate writing center to review your personal statement if you really think it's necessary. Otherwise just do it yourself.

To be clear I meant paying a third party service to edit your PS,not asking help from someone/going to a university resource etc...benwyatt wrote:I'm going to agree with everything you said except the bolded.foregetaboutdre wrote:Personal statements are literally worth probably ~1% of your total admissions decision in 99.999% of circumstances. Editing isn't dishonest and legal writing is very different from PS writing.

Assuming any of it is dishonest at all, why do you think getting someone to do it for free would be any less dishonest than paying someone to do it?foregetaboutdre wrote:Personal statements are literally worth probably ~1% of your total admissions decision in 99.999% of circumstances. There's nothing dishonest about paying somebody to edit your work. You can probably find somebody competent to do it for free, though. I also take exception to those stats about the importance of the PS. If you have slightly below average numbers or are a splitter, a standout PS can make a big difference. I'm sure it depends on the school.

Dishonest is a bad term, i'd agree - I'd put it more along the lines of waste of money/perhaps frowned upon.
