Your addendum comes across as whiny and substance-free, and will do you absolutely no good at all.

Probably like half of college freshmen aren't all that great at college at first, for equally nonexistent reasons. Unfortunately for them, plenty of freshman also do just fine their first year. Many of them even went to public high school.

A legitimate GPA addendum is like "I was the sole breadwinner for my siblings while my single mother slowly died of cancer" or "I was on dialysis and got a kidney transplant over Christmas vacation" or "My house burned down." Not just "um, I was a stupid freshman and thought other people were smarter than me so I didn't try very hard, but it turned out I was wrong."
