I've got a few ideas

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Nov 03, 2014 8:33 pm

Okay so I'm basically lost as to what my topic should be for my personal statement. I've generated a few ideas and are as follows:
how exposure to books and reading at a young age has shaped me,
how my grandparents being from Europe shaped me,
how the tragedy of losing both of my grandpas within one month of each other shaped me,
how exposure to my uncle's mental illness has caused me to think in unique ways,
and finally another idea is to write about a specific tutoring experience I have encountered while tutoring at-risk students in the writing center at a high school.

I know I haven't given any details about any of these topics but which ones do you think have the most potential, if done correctly? Any thoughts would be great.

The tutoring is the safest bet at writing an acceptable essay (severely diminishing marginal benefit between a good and a great PS).
The mental illness essay might end up being more interesting but odds are you're going to screw it up so unless you're a serious contender for HYS, I would avoid it.

The grandparents and the books topics aren't as good topics as the tutoring imo.

This question is impossible to answer. Any of those could conceivably be a good PS depending what your point is and how you write it.
