What does that narrative reveal about your character? It could be a great statement of purpose, but it doesn't sound like a good personal statement. The best brainstorming tool I've found was posted here on TLS. Create a chart with your best character attributes - leadership, determination, service, whatever - and then find narratives that exemplify them. The narrative you pick to write on needs to be compelling and coherent, and should exemplify through action your best attributes.
