I think you may want to incorporate more concretely about how you reacted in response to your background and what your future plans might be. Seems too much description of your parents' struggle.

I'm new here and I hope my comments can be helpful.

Thank you for your comments! I wanted to avoid having this come off as their story instead of mine. I can definitely incorporate what you suggested.

Bumping for more feedback. I plan to say less about my parents and tell more about what I've learned through specific examples. Anything else?
