How specific should an addendum be? (If you've been sick)

If you contracted an illness that affected your GPA or LSAT, how specific should you be in describing the illness. It's easy to say "I got sick", but that somehow does not sound convincing on its own. Is there a proper way to word the addendum without getting into too much (gross) detail?

Very specific if you want people to consider what your are saying seriously.

FYI: No addendum will make up for a poor GPA/LSAT.
