Writing too specifically about an area of law?
I have work experience closely related to a particular type of transactional law (e.g. capital markets, M&A, bankruptcy etc.) and am writing my personal statement about this. In particular, my "why law" section is centered around this area. I'm definitely still open to exploring other areas of the law, but this area is where I became interested to begin with. Is this too limiting for a personal statement? I feel that a lot of statements talk about the law in general, while my area is very specific to a particular function and I'm not sure how admissions will look at it. Any advice?

No, this is good. It shows that you're serious. step 1: identify why you want to go to law school.
step 2: identify what made you that way.
step 3: write this out.
step 4: get someone awesome at writing to fix your prose.
You've done steps one and two. Now just articulate it in essay form and get this shit done with.

Based on anecdotal experience, it may even boost your chances. I tied my military experiences very, very clearly with international law and have thus far been accepted into t-14 schools I never thought would even consider me, let alone so early in the cycle. It could have been something else of course, but it certainly didn't seem to hurt my chances. I think that so long as you write about something that is meaningful to you-and do it well-you should be perfectly fine. Good luck
