UW diversity statement

Post by TheSpanishMain » Tue Aug 06, 2013 6:12 pm

One of the things University of Washington wants is a <700 word statement describing how you would add to the diversity of the law school class. I have a good idea of how I'll draft it, discussing military service, pre-law school career, and international work/travel. The thing is, though, I've heard that you don't want to include anything in a personal statement that is already on your resume. Any thoughts on this? If I can't write about anything that's referenced on my resume, I'm kind of hosed.

I don't think the rule of thumb is that you can't write about anything in your resume, it's that you don't want to write out your resume in long-form for your personal statement. So, don't write an essay that says "I did a, b, and c," write one that says "I did a and this is why it makes me diverse."
