Why Our School Essays Forum

I apologize if this has been answered before but I have been using the search function for these forums but haven't successfully found anything.

Is it acceptable to send a "Why Our School" essay even if the school does not require it?

This article says that schools view these essays as addenda, which is fine for me personally since I will not send in any other addenda otherwise, but may be troublesome for an applicant wishing to submit more than one addenda.

If the TLS article I linked to is true, then I may have answered my own question, but I'd be interested in hearing other thoughts.

some schools like them even though they do not require it. Maybe do a search on each particular school that you do not know for sure.

The only thing I know about these types of essays is that you should under no circumstances make the core of your argument some generic bullshit about the school's academic excellence.
