marijuana charge and GPA Addenda Forum

I would appreciate any comments on my addenda for marijuana charge and GPA.

1. In April of 2007, while I was smoking marijuana with my friend in my dorm room, I was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. I was placed on six months probation under XXX state's health code YYYY. After successfully completing six months of probation, community service, drug screenings, and a rehab course, I was discharged and my case was dismissed without a conviction. Only a nonpublic record of the arrest and discharge is kept.
I am truly ashamed of my past wrongdoing, and take full responsibility for my improper judgment. While I regret my misbehavior to this day, I am truly thankful for the experience because it was a turning point in my life. It enabled me to grow as a more matured person, and I transformed myself into a more diligent and serious student. I dedicated myself to my studies, and was able to achieve good grades in my last three years of college. More importantly, the incident aroused my interest in how the law operates in our society. It inspired me to take several law related courses, and internships at the Office of the Attorney General for the XXX, and the American Bar Association. In retrospect, this incident opened my eyes to the field of law.

2. Having lived most of my life in [Asian country] prior to college, I struggled the first year of college for I had to cope with a new environment and a different culture. It was hard for me to focus on my studies as I suffered from emotional distress and depression. This negatively affected my studies, and I received a GPA of 2.66 in my freshman year. After the incident regarding my marijuana charge (explained in the addendum #1), however, I decided to change. I devoted myself to my studies, and I was able to get a GPA of 3.92 in the last three years of college with a 3.94 GPA in my major. I hope the admission committee will consider this when reviewing my application.

Take out the last sentence, but other than that I think it's alright.
