Need help choosing a PS topic Forum

I'm trying to decide between these two and would greatly appreciate any input or advice:

1. Trying out for one the elite D-1 basketball programs in the country, failing my first try and then returning my second year and making the team. I originally wanted to avoid anything basketball but it has been a huge part of my life and developed me into the person I am today.

2. I have been working in securities regulation for the past 5 years in DC. Recently, I just moved to NYC to take a better job in the same industry

My biggest issue is not making my PS read like a resume. However, each time I start writing or create an outline I always veer off in that direction. Again any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

Of those two, I would rather read about basketball. I imagine most adcomms would as well. You can work in plenty of 'I have X skill and Y quality, which coincidentally would come in handy for law school' in a sports story. And it's way less likely to read like a resume.

Use both, or neither, or one or the other. Depends upon the presentation. Formulate a theme, offer insights into your development & surround them with facts. In short, the topic is irrelevant.

I'm not crazy about either of them. #2 is really boring and I'm not sure how you could make that into an interesting PS.
#1 could possibly work, but you would have to work to make it less about basketball and more about you as a person. It really depends on what you do with the topic.
