Advice on when to start writing personal statement?

Post by lawguy310 » Thu Jun 14, 2012 5:45 pm

How far in advance did you start writing your personal statement?

I haven't started yet and plan to apply in October after I take my LSAT.

Don't neglect studying for the LSAT, but there's nothing wrong with getting started on a PS now. Some people only take a few drafts and can bust one out pretty quickly, but some people need multiple fresh starts and extensive editing that can take months.

I'd say most people take several weeks.

If you aren't doing hardcore studying right now, get your PS out of the way now so that once the semester starts, you can focus only on your school and your LSAT, and once your scores come in, you can start cranking out applications without worrying about your PS.

Do it now when you're taking breaks from studying. : )

Also, if you haven't already done so, go ahead and contact the people you'll want to write rec letters for you.
