Which do you think would be more compelling?
1. A story about how my parents dropped out of high school and I am the first person in my extended family to go to college
or
2. A story about an obstacle I had in my life; a rich narrative about how I applied myself, persevered, and overcame in obstacle.

Credited. I would say option number 2, but be sure what you are writing about is actually an obstacle, not a disappointment. This link should be helpful for an OO ps.
