resume help??

Post by Schang1 » Wed Oct 12, 2011 10:52 pm

I'm trying to combine these 2 together (I've just read sample resumes on how to combine 2 different positions from the same work place but nothing related on how to combine the same position from different times & different places). This is what I basically have:

English Tutor, Austin TX February 2011 – Present
•Educate five pre-school and elementary Korean students at least two hours a week individually and in small group settings in English by reading children’s books to help them with their pronunciation and communication skills
•Guided two parents at least one hour a week in pronunciation and conversational skills

English Private Tutor, Seoul, South Korea May 2009 – August 2009, May 2010 – August 2010
•Educated four middle school and four high school Korean students at least four times a week in English pronunciation and conversational skills

Do I add up all the students/parents?? any help would be greatly appreciated  :P :D

**If they are separate positions/companies (and it kind of looks like it by the different titles you have given yourself, locations, time frames and age groups), generally you should not combine them in your resume - especially if your resume is lean on work experience.

**Second - you do not need to be so specific with how many students/parents you tutored (or how many hours) -to be honest, it's not doing you any favors (probably not hurting all that much, but it's really not needed). If anyone ever follows-up on it in an interview, then you can elaborate. However, from my experience, interviewers care more about the specifics of what you did versus how many you did it for. Anyway this is *roughly* what I would do:

English Tutor, Austin TX February 2011 – Present
•Tutor pre-school and elementary Korean students by reading children’s books, to help with their English pronunciation and communication skills

•Guide parents with pronunciation and conversational skills
** I am not digging the word 'guide,' but that may be purely stylistic on my part. I would suggest being just a little bit more specific on what 'guide' means.

English Private Tutor, Seoul, South Korea May 2009 – August 2009, May 2010 – August 2010
•Educated middle school and high school students with English pronunciation and conversational skills.
**Maybe throw-in how you did this, tools, etc.

Hope this helps, and good luck :)
