targeting specific schools -
I've noticed people writing on their PS (towards the end) or provide a separate essay about "why X law school" -- but my question is.. what would you really say?? Like for example, let's say I want to practice family law -- so I say "I want to go to Georgetown because it has an amazing family law program" (just an example) but the reality is that Indiana University has a better family law program (ranked #2) so... this totally sounds like bs.. wouldn't they look at it and be like "well Indiana has a better family law program than we do, so why didn't you apply to them?" and my answer would be "no shit your school is ranked like 20+ higher"... what do people really say when they right about a specific school???

You're thinking way too much into it. When describing "Why X", describe why you would want to go to X specifically, regardless of where they rank.

so you mean just say all of the things (for example) even if the school is not "known" for such things?theadvancededit wrote:You're thinking way too much into it. When describing "Why X", describe why you would want to go to X specifically, regardless of where they rank.
-it's diverse (regardless of whether it's less diverse than other schools)
-offers program I am highly interested in
-has an outstanding mock trial team (regardless of whether it is ranked lower than other schools' mock trial teams)

What a "Why X" essay should address is 1- why you would want to go to this school and 2-, if admitted, what you would do there. So, if those are factors you listed part of these two things, then yes. It's not whether or not the school is "known" for those things; your essay should reflect what attracts you to that particular school, in general.
