NYU Furman Essay Swap?

Post by kulshan » Mon Sep 05, 2011 1:40 pm

Anyone else applying for the Furman scholarship at NYU want to exchange essays? I suppose it might also be helpful to exchange essays if you are applying for the other NYU scholarships, as well.

I'm not applying for the Furman, but I'm applying for others within the RTK. The site says that you must include a short essay (750 words), but also says that you may use your personal statement as a stand-in for the essay, if you feel it applies. I was planning on using my PS, but it's longer than 750 words. Does anyone know if it matters? The site reads in a way that makes me think that it doesn't, but I'm not sure.

And if you want, kulshan, I'll read your essay for you.

Oh, interesting. I would guess that using your PS as a stand in means that you are not beholden to the word limit, but I'm not sure.

The Furman essay is supposed to be around 500 words and explain why you want to pursue an academic career and what type of research you plan to pursue. My PS also deals with those questions, but not in as much depth, so I guess I don't mind writing an extra essay.

I'll PM you soon.
