Help!

Post by Susan_Walid » Tue Aug 16, 2011 12:42 pm

I really need help starting my personal statement. I have severe writer's block. Is anyone willing to help me find a starting point? Or recommend a good book to read regarding organization/topics? I will be forever grateful...Been sitting here all morning, staring at a blank screen :/

How to get into top law schools

Think about your background and experience. If this was an interview, what would you say? Do not try to write poetic/flowery. Be succinct and straight to the point.

Think about what you would do if you were going out on a date and wanted to impress this new person. You'd probably want to tell a story, an interesting story that made you look good. After hearing it, hopefully he or she would want to invite you back to his or her place. It's like that, except you're going on a date with an admissions committee.

Thanks guys. How long do, on average, personal statements take to write?

Depends on how picky you are. For me, I've had five completely different PSs. I'm currently working on the 9th revision of the 5th version. I'd say maybe 100 hours have been spent writing so far.

Some take a few hours, others need a few weeks.

I was inspired simply by reading the things posted on this site. It gave me a place to start from at least.
