PS about winning Guts and a piece of the Aggro Crag
Is this a good idea? I'm worried that because this was before the Super Aggro Crag, admissions will not be as receptive.

I believe it depends on how many things you were tethered to in proportion to the number of athletic events.

One thing is for certain, adcomms will probably remember your PS, which is one very big goal of any PS. Just don't make it to cheesy or over blow it and you should be fine.
Don't think it'll hold a candle to Yul winning Survivor though.
Edit: He graduated before participating in survivor.

If you would have successfully assembled the statue in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey and won The Legends of the Hidden Temple, then you would be in anywhere.

Unless the adcomm is a Temple Guard and he was out of Pendants of Life.WhoIsDonDraper wrote:If you would have successfully assembled the statue in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey and won The Legends of the Hidden Temple, then you would be in anywhere.
PS: It drove me nuts when they couldn't figure that monkey out.

Maybe you'll get lucky and an adcom member's grandson will be sitting in for him... Otherwise, I can already hear the, "WTF is this? Anyone know WTF this is? Craig?"

But I think I could really make strong connections between my experience and my desire to practice law. You really don't think it's an okay idea? I'm not really sure what else to write about.Total Litigator wrote:Maybe you'll get lucky and an adcom member's grandson will be sitting in for him... Otherwise, I can already hear the, "WTF is this? Lol, to be honest, sure, I think it has potential. I mean I'm sure you have to show some drive and determination to get on the show. Although I'm not sure how well the next step, i.e. "I solved the monkey puzzle in 30 seconds" necessarily demonstrates values law schools are looking for. I think the biggest problem with this is that you probably did this when you were between 10 and 15 years old. I think law schools value college and post grad PS experiences the most.Transferthrowaway wrote:But I think I could really make strong connections between my experience and my desire to practice law. Well I climbed to the top of Mount Everest in college, so I was planning to show a progression through the PS that I view law school as sort of "the next great challenge" for me.Total Litigator wrote:Lol, to be honest, sure, I think it has potential. Give it a shot. Write up the PS, then post it here for editing and review. I, for one, am very interested to read how an experience on a children's game show that emphasizes physical ability can be connected to the law (and I'm talking specifics, not bullshit generalities such as "the drive and will to succeed that I developed from GUTS will undoubtedly help me in my legal aspirations."Transferthrowaway wrote:But I think I could really make strong connections between my experience and my desire to practice law.Total Litigator wrote:Maybe you'll get lucky and an adcom member's grandson will be sitting in for him... Edit after your post above: Personally, I don't like when people try to parallel physical feats with the mental skills required for law. Yes, you have motivation, perseverance and ability to overcome adversity, but how does that EXACTLY translate to law?

Re: PS about winning Guts and a piece of the Aggro Crag
Write it. Post it. Then we'll know if it's worth it.
I don't know what in the world the Aggro Crag is - which shows how much knowledge I've thrown away during law school - but that's not important. In fact, I think a lot of people put way too much emphasis on the subject of their PS, when what I advocate they focus on is determining whether they're writing about something that captures aspects of their character. Are you considering this because it's a cool story or because you believe it can be used to illustrate something about who you are as a person? What would this story say about you? You didn't say anything about that in your OP.
As an example, there was that guy whow as going to write about being in a guild in WoW. I still think that would have been a bad idea, but he seemed to have a solid understanding of what he could demonstrate about himself by writing about that experience. That's the most important part of these things.
Edit: I see above that you said it could be used to show law school as "the next great challenge" - is it merely limited to that? Not that I criticize that particular motivation, but I wanted to know if that's right.

I would also caution: Adcom's preferably want to know you are going to law school because you want to learn the law / become a lawyer, not cuz you ran out of mountains. I'm not saying climbing Everest doesn't make a good PS, as I'm sure it does, but just be careful how you approach it.

So this post has absolutely made my day. Me and my husband are sitting here lamenting the silver monkey. I think I could put that thing together with my eyes closed. Did they never watch the show?!?! Please please write about winning the Aggro Cragg. That would be so great....law school admit decisions aside.

This has been a wonderful trolling experience. I am going to take a shot at this Aggro Crag/Everest PS.
