PS topic, good or bad
This past May I lived through an EF 5 tornado. Would it be too cliche to talk about this near death experience? I'm sure I could write about it without being too self indulgent. I think it could be good as long as I keep to how this experience has changed my outlook on life and how going to law school ties in with my life goals. Thoughts?

As long as you avoid the cliched "big moment" where you knew you wanted to go to law school, I think it could have potential.

Not terrible but not great. It should be grammatically perfect and edited by people you trust, etc. Then, of course, you should apply as early as possible. Most likely it wont matter.

Write it and then post it. Then we'll see. Until then, I don't know there's whole lot anyone can do for you.
ETA: I've read PSs that had a topic 1000x more compelling than yours, and they sucked terribly. I've read PSs that had a topic 1000x less compelling than yours, and they kicked ass.
In other words, write it. If it's bad, it's bad. If it's good, it's good. 'Tis all.

I like the idea since, in your case, everyone will know the incident to which you're referring.
It will "help" (and I mean that in the most non-offensive way possible) if you were personally impacted by the storm, for instance if you had any classes with any of the deceased students.
Walk the line between cliched and exploitative.

I like it as a "Fuck my apartment, fuck my job, I need to get my shit together and go to law school" PS, rather than a "it strengthened my resolve to go to law school" PS.
/in all fairness, my PS was about a "fuck my job" moment of self reflection.
