Maybe you could limit your personal statement to just one of these two life changing traumas. If it were me, I'd write about the misdiagnosis and how you are still struggling with a degenerative disease -- how it's given you a new perspective on life, how you've matured, how you plan to deal with law school and the future with this disease.

Even though you were never in any trouble as a juvenile, the type of school you went to sounds like it would imply otherwise. I'd avoid it as a topic.
