Grammar rules?!

I'd like to know if it would be advisable to add parenthesis and bold font to emphasize various points of importance in my personal statement. If this is against standard policy please advise as to any common mistakes to be avoided.

don't do it. Especially the bold. That seems goofy.

Just use stronger language to emphasize important points.
