really confused about the PS

Post by Boulanger07 » Thu Nov 04, 2010 11:16 am

So i seem to have everything necessary to start applying except my personal statement. I was wondering if anyone out there would be able to help me out with a few questions about the PS.

1. Is there a particular prompt that I should be writing about?
2. How do you submit your PS to lsac.org?
3. I was thinking about writing about my experience as a math tutor during my undergrad, is this a good topic?

1) go with anything that makes you shine as a person and as a law school student

2) when you go onto lsac, for each application there is a button for upload files. Click on it and follow the directions on the screen ( you will put your resume, essays, and addenda here)

3) this would be a decent topic. Get a rough draft and post it on the personal statement board for peer review.

actually for your first question, there is a link that says "school's instructions" on the first box and it gives you the propt, if you have the option of some optional statement and the guidelines (font, legth...)

Like many people, I took the time to craft my PS. Now, as I am applying, I do see that some schools want your PS to reflect why you want their school and what you can bring to the school and things like that... So, keep in mind that you may want to approach your paper knowing that certain things may need to be added... or deleted-- one school had a 500 word limit and I had to chop my 2 pages down even more....

It is not a completely universal PS situation out there. But hopefully your PS will have a broad enough theme to it (with specifics too) that you can parlay that theme into a concise paragraph aimed at each and any particular school.

When in doubt, do as the post above says and check the application for the schools you intend to apply ahead of time. They make it very clear.
